Fabulous jacket. My last shell lasted 12 years of hard use and gentle care!

Over that period I learned exactly what I wanted and didn't want in a jacket. The latok is the closest to perfect on the market

Used this new latok jacket for the first time yesterday in very heavy rain and strong winds very impressed with the performance of this jacket no moisture inside the jacket and very good water repellency and breathabilty.

Bought 2012 Latok new for trip to NW Scotland. Somewhat disappointed. First day with couple hours rain, felt damp/cold at chest. Second day after 4-1/2 hour walk in heavy rain all pockets had leaked (including pockets that were not opened), and inside pocket contents were damp. Arms and upper chest also damp. In contrast my Berghaus paclite overtrousers were amazingly dry, even after battling through heather, grass and miles of bog. Was cold weather, and I do not sweat heavily.

Another superb piece of kit from Rab. Well designed, lightweight and waterproof - an excellent all rounder.

I purchased both the Latok jacket and trousers. During my first trip through the Hardanger plateau they both leaked in a moderate downpour and made overnight camping miserable in the morning. They fit well, look good and breathe, but they are not waterproof.

Simple & effective. First wore the jacket on a warm but wet day, and yes it was lot more breathable than previous - Goretex - jackets.

Hi Andy. We do our best to let customers know that they shouldn’t leave anything that may be damaged by moisture in any outer pockets – simply keeping these items in a waterproof bag or similar solves any problems. With the external pocket there is a rain-drain built in that means that any moisture within the pocket is channelled towards the base of the pocket and out of the drain. If the drain wasn’t there than the pocket could fill with water, it may be that the moisture in the base of your pocket has run down the inside of the pocket and out the bottom as it is designed to. The Zips on all the pockets are not 100% waterproof either and may cause some leakage in heavy rain – again this is why we put the note on this in the pockets.
I’m sorry you were disappointed with your jacket but with the pocket configuration we use, (that prioritises keeping water out of the main jacket body) it isn’t possible for us to make the external pockets 100% waterproof. This is part of the design and construction of the jacket and not a fault.

Great features and excellent waterproofing with event EXCEPT the outer breast pockets are NOT sealed along the bottom seam so anything you put in the pockets, for me hats/gloves/camera, which is why I bought the jacket, get WET in rain as the water wicks through the stitching. Can not believe Rab did not see this fault, instead they obviously has some similar feedback in testing and so have put a note in the pockets saying items might get wet if you leave the pockets open!!! Sadly I returned my jacket...

Simply the best hard-shell I have owned, amazing quality and finish from RAB as you would expect. Pockets are perfectly placed for use while using a backpack or climbing and they are deep. The pit zips add great flexibility to the Latok and widen the performance environment and as they have two-way zips you can control the venting / cooling very well. The cut is active just were you need it... mainly in the upper body and around the shoulders while remaining a close fit around the torso and waist. I have to say... once you put this jacket on... you feel prepared for anything...it really has that much of an effect on you. Simply an amazing jacket which is very durable and very hard wearing. nnMy Latok is the pre winter 2011 version and having tried the newer style on, in two different XL sizes I came to the conclusion that the cut / fit is slightly different on new style. Not sure if RAB have changed things but I found the upper body movement has been reduced.... this may not affect everyone but if you scramble or climb it might. n

Superbly lightweight, waterproof shell. Cutting above the rest in quality for its price. Easily compresses into the daysack and yet is fantasticly versatile when you get it out. Will handle the wind/rain conditions of the UK no problems - and is really comfortable to wear over distance. Rab = Quality :)

The best waterproff I have ever owned, comfortable and well designed. I just widh the Alpine version had been out when I bought mine as the Napoleon pocket additions would have been handy to have.

eVent waterproofing makes for an exceptional waterproof. I wear with a double pile jacket for amazing comfort in all weather. Superb when riding a bike too.

This is an awesome jacket. It is a tad pricey, but you get your moneys worth. It is very breathable and I find the underarm ventilation very useful. It is very durable and very hard wearing. Great features. Great Fabric. Great Jacket. I would definitely buy it again. If you can afford it, go for it!

As a Norwegian I used to swear by Norrøna. These Norwegian products are of great quality, but uses Gore-Tex which I think is inferior to the eVent membrane utilised by Rab. This is my heaviest shell. The fit is great and the fabric feels bomb-proof. May be on the short side for some walkers.
