Stretch Neo Jacket

4.7 (16 total)

The Stretch Neo Jacket is a waterproof and highly breathable jacket designed for mountain use.

The Stretch Neo takes advantage of an all new technology from softshell supremos Polartec - the new Neoshell® fabric. Neoshell Fabric takes softshell technology one step further. Polartec have managed to find the 'holy-grail' of highly breathable, 99.9% windproof and waterproof fabric that even has stretch built in.

By increasing air exchange in the fabric it dramatically improves the active environment within the garment, users will be drier inside in a wide range of activities and exertion levels than ever before.

We have used the Neoshell fabric and applied tried and tested Rab design know-how. A simple, uncluttered design (with a helmet compatible and adjustable hood, 2 napoleon pockets with water resistant zips and 2 internal mesh pockets), means the Stretch Neo Jacket has all the features you need.

Every review I've seen rates this jacket.

I bought one to run in, and to do the OMM in next year.

I have to say, I sweat like nobody's business at the best of times........

I went for a 40 minute run in a good quality long-sleeve compression base layer, and this jacket, in 10 degree, windy weather and, sure enough, sweated myself silly.

Got back and the only thing that was wet inside the jacket was.......the cotton label. Honestly - what on earth were they thinking? All this tech and they've put two cotton labels inside - at the base of your neck.

The rest of the jacket inside was bone dry. Absolutely never had a jacket like it. Windproof, waterproof, truly breathable even under really sweaty conditions.

    Cons?
Aside from the cotton labels.......which I guess I could cut out....

The top 5" of zip is a little stiff under your chin (although it might soften in time), and if you leave it unzipped it can bounce a bit while you're running.

    That's it.

It's totally worth the asking price. Am chuffed to bits with mine. :)

So far so good. This stretch neo was a replacement jacket to the mountain dru which I bought from rab and proved to be on two occasions less waterproof than a cheep jacket from the likes of smaller companies. So far I have found the stretch to be good fitting for a slim 6ft 7 guy like myself. It's highly wind proof as they state and the hood size and fit is amazing. The quality of the material is really astonishing too , for something so lightweight and stretchy it really is very windproof. As for the waterproof ness I can't comment yet as I'm waiting for
rain to come to the south west , but rest assured when it does ill be wearing the stretch and testing it too the max. More review to come later. Thanks RAB for the great customer service and support. Chris prior

This is a fantastic jacket and well worth every penny. I’ve used it to climb various alpine peaks and it’s kept me dry in rain, snow and sun. The level of breathability is great, sweat dissipates very easily which means less time adding and removing layers. The waterproofing has also been fine and I’ve had no issues with any leaks.

I used this jacket on top of Mont Blanc in high winds, at -20°C and it did a great job of cutting out the wind chill. It also kept me dry in sustained downpours during the three peaks challenge in October.

In summary, this is a high performance, breathable jacket that will keep you happy in extreme conditions.

On my first day of wearing my Stretch Neo it felt as light as a feather. After years of heavy winter clothing. I was amazed to find that not only was I warm but not hot. The rain in January was coming sideways. The only wet place was my face. No rain entered past the zips. It was a marvellous feeling. When I returned home after a 15km hike I did not need to change my T shirt as there was no perspiration. This jacket had been recommended to me by Rab. I am so pleased I followed their advice. I can't wait to get amongst the snow on Saturday.

Have owned this for a number of months now and was quite pleased with shortish 2 hour walks. However I've just returned from a Snowdonia trip of wind and rain! Unfortunately this jacket didn't stand up to the 4 hours of rain that the mountains threw at me. My merino baselayer, mid layer fleece were pretty wet and the inside of the jacket was also soaking. I had to change clothes when I got back to the car and was disappointed to say the least. I had high hopes but it was not to be. The only part of my that stayed dry was my feet thanks to the brilliant leather boots made by a certain italian company (and they don't even have a goretex lining)!

I have used lots of waterproofs and this is by far the best. In the last year I have put this jacket through it paces in Scottish winter, the alps both summer and winter and the Indian Himalaya. Ive also used it for running and cycling when cold. It breaths so well it has now completely replaced my softshell/ shell combo.
The hood is also awesome. It is however imo a lot of jacket for most of these activities. So please please Rab make the 'Demand pull on' in this material soon!

I first wore this jacket on a wet and windy weekend on Dartmoor and I was very impressed with its waterproof and breathable capability. I'm sure its going to prove a favourite on winter backpacking trips.

Extremely light. Feels very durable. I cannot wait for the rain to come to put it to the test!

I have used this in Borneo, Nepal, American deserts, Scottish Winter, Norwegian winter, the Peak District. it's the best waterproof I have ever had.

Fantasitc jacket!!! Used it recently 2 weeks in Utah from 5 - 30 degrees celsius, slot canyons and steep 1000 altimeter ascends through the snow, windy cold conditions, heavy sunlight. I hike quite fast and tend to sweat a lot. I couldn't believe how well the neoshell works. First time in my life the marketing people said the truth!

Okay, So I run HOT. Although the jacket has not ski features itself, its breathability is it redeeming point. Perfect! Skiing you typically exert yourself for a good 20min then spend another 10min standing around typically 'chilling down' - Not so with this jacket. At -20C at the bottom of the lifts, I was toasty in a t-shirt base layer, a long sleeve base layer and this! My true skiing friends meanwhile shivered in their designer ski jackets. Rab 1 - Skiing Chills 0!
